Nigerian High Commission responds to basketball player, Olumide Oyedeji

Last week, ex-NBA player and current team captain of the Nigerian Basketball team, Olumide Oyedeji, went on a Twitter rant about not getting any support from the Nigerian High Commission for his charity basketball clinic for kids in London. (If you missed it, read HERE).

The guy he accused of telling him to go to another country's embassy for support, Mr T.G Adeniyi  has released a statement telling his own side of the story. He claims that Olumide still wrote to them seeking for support after his twitter rants. Interesting. Lol. See his statement after the cut...

My attention has just been drawn to the above stated story and I feel it is only tidy and proper to put the distorted story in its true picture for posterity. Mr. Oyedeji had first visited my office in company of his staff and we exchanged pleasantries. He introduced while he was in my office the idea of his Foundation to me. I saluted and congratulated him for his laurels as a professional basketballer and I assured him of our Mission's support. We exchanged complementary cards I similarly advised him on the procedure to follow for him to pay courtesy call on the High Commissioner. He thanked me and excited by his towering height I requested for a photograph with him and he graciously agreed for a pose. Before he left my office that day I told him of the High Commissioner's crowded programme since the beginning of November, to wit; Commonwealth Summit in Colombo, Srilanka , Mr President's visit and the Assembly of International Maritime Organization etc. He thereafter took leave of my office.
A few days afterwards, He called and I told him his excellency was still attending the IMO meeting and will only available as from 2nd December. But in Mr Oyedeji's wisdom he decided to come to the office and I spoke with him after he had spoken with the Head of Chancery. I repeated to him that the High commissioner was still engaged at the IMO at that was on the 28th of November. He explained to me his effort in the past year to make his presentation to HC. I replied that I was not aware of his initial move to which he told me he was then talking to a different person. I assured him that with a little more patience everything will be fine. Surprisingly , he changed the pitch of his tone and stated he wanted his Foundation to be launched at the Mission without further delay and indeed that was the reason why he came impromptu. At that point I advised him to consider during the launching in our Embassy in the country of his residence as he had told me during our first meeting that he was not a regular resident in the U.K since time was of essence. He paused and hanged his phone.

You may wish to note that Mr Oyedeji has again written to the Mission after posting his story to Twitter seeking audience after the attempted cheap and unnecessary blackmail. I decided to send this mail upon receipt of his letter. I will not make any analysis of his act but I request that this correspondence be published as you have treated his.
Thank You,
TG Adeniyi

People come for Brandy for posting 'negative' pics of Africa

Quite a number of people from different parts of Africa blasted US singer Brandy for posting pics on her instagram page that they felt 'portrayed Africa in a bad light'. Brandy, who was in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire a few days ago to perform, posted the photo above and called it 'Beauty'. She posted another pic of three young boys in tattered clothing and called it 'depth'.

Africans didn't see the 'beauty' or 'depth' in the photos. More responses after the cut...

Brandy will be in Abuja, Nigeria this weekend to perform, hopefully she will find something better to post of our beautiful country. :-)

Burna Boy Barred From UK For 15 Years

There are reports that Nigeria's pop sensation, Burna Boy's “uncontrollable” character has cost him a 15 years ban from the United Kingdom.

‘He can’t be told anything to do, he’s a big boy right now. He won’t just listen anymore, we are frustrated with his actions’.” his label mates told NET.
Burna boy who is presently having issues with his label, Aristokrat,  has not only moved out of the house provided for him by the label in Lekki Phase 1 but he has also extricated himself from them and now handles his career with a former label employee who now only answers to him (Burna).
‘He wants to be in more control of his career’, they further told the online portal.
Well, Burna Boy’s ‘uncontrollable’ mannerism and persona didn’t just start yesterday, a few months ago he allegedly attacked and slapped a ticket attendant  at the Silverbird cinema, Port Harcourt.
Also, a while in the UK back in 2010, he was arrested and sent to jail by London Police for allegedly being part of a gang and stabbing someone to death.
He was released after 11 months and given two months parole plus community service on the grounds of being of ‘good behaviour’, however, Burna allegedly disobeyed authorities and travelled back to Nigeria where he signed a record deal with Aristokrat.
He later travelled back to the UK but was arrested at the airport and deported to Nigeria. He is currently barred from the UK for the next 15 years.

Joke of the day

A Nigerian and a South African lived next door to

each other . The Nigerian owned a hen and each

morning would look in his garden and pick up one

of his hen's eggs for breakfast. One day he

looked into his garden and saw that the hen had

laid an egg in the South African's garden.

He was about to go next door when he saw the

South African pick up the egg. The Nigerian ran up

to the South African and told him that the egg

belonged to him because he owned the hen. The

South African disagreed because the egg was laid

on his property.

They argued for a while until finally the

Nigerian said, 'In my family we normally solve

disputes by the following actions: I kick you in

the groin and time how long it takes you to get

back up, then you kick me in the groin and time

how long it takes for me to get up. Whoever gets

up quicker wins the egg.'

The South African agreed to this and so the Nigerian

found his heaviest pair of boots and put them on,

he took a few steps back, then ran toward the

South African and kicked as hard as he could in the

balls.

The South African fell to the floor clutching his

nuts howling in agony for 30 minutes. Eventually

the South African stood up and said, 'Now it's my

turn to kick you.'

The Nigerian said, 'Keep the damn egg.'

T-Billz Destroys Photographer's Camera At Sound Sultan's Birthday Party

Barely a week after their widely celebrated wedding, Tiwa Savage‘s husband, Tunji ‘T-Billz’ Balogun is in the news for attacking a photo-journalist.

For allegedly taking pictures against his will, the 323 Entertainment boss snatched the camera in front of several witnesses and crashed it in on the floor damaging the lens and other accessories in the camera. The incident, which happened last Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Façade Thai Restaurant, Bishop Aboyade Cole, Victoria Island, Lagos raised a few eyebrows as the photographer and some guests challenged and condemned T-Bill’s actions, while querying the photographer for shooting without permission..

Reports from eyewitnesses say T-billz who was at the venue the birthday of musician Sound Sultan ‘angrily attacked the photo-journalist, snatching his camera and breaking it for taking pictures of him‘.

When contacted for his side of the story, the photo-journalist Victor Obot also known as Elejo denied directing the camera at T-billz. ‘I wasn’t even pointing the camera at him. The camera was directed at another guest who was sitting next to him, and then all of a sudden, he snatched my camera from me and smashed it.’

We’re told other guests at the party strongly condemned the talent manager’s actions.

One source told NET that former Kennis Music artiste, Azadus was infuriated by the incident and was forced to confront one of T-billz’s boys who threatened to beat up Elejo.

Speaking to our correspondent in a telephone conversation Azadus said ‘From what I gathered, T-Billz had warned Elejo (photo-journalist) not to take snapshots of him. Much later, I saw T-Billz grabbing the camera from him and then the camera fell on the floor in the process. Although I do not endorse T-Billz’s action, but I think the Elejo should have respected his wish and not try to take snap shots of him’

When our correspondent reached out to T-Billz by telephone, he however denied destroying the camera. He said, ‘It is not true. You can go ahead and cook up whatever story you like. It is not going to shake me in anyway’, and then he angrily hung up.

Sound Sultan who was the celebrant however refused to confirm or deny the story. ‘I do not wish to comment on this matter. Thank you‘, he said when NET tried to get his side of the story.

Another witness, Tomi, a PR consultant who works with Sound Sultan told NET that she’s been trying to reach out to Elejo in order to resolve the issue amicably. ‘On the day of the incident, myself, Sound Sultan and Don T were trying to come in between, but they (T-Billz and Elejo) both wouldn’t listen. I invited him to the party, so, just feel he should have reached out to us before going to the press. The next day I still called him and asked him to let it go, but he seems to be insistent on doing what he must’.

Multiple sources confirm that the photographer and T-Billz actually have a long-standing working relationship. ‘Elejo has done several jobs for Tiwa and T-Billz. As a matter of fact, he goes to their house at 1004 Flats in Victoria Island to meet up with them sometimes, so he is not a stranger to T-Billz’, said a source.

Elejo confirmed the once cordial relationship to our correspondent. ‘For the jobs I did for him months ago, he is still owing me the sum of N150,000 and so I do not understand why he is being hostile to me.’

T-Billz has made no secret of his contempt for photographers in recent times. For some reason, at his recently held wedding to Tiwa Savage, photographers and recording devices were barred from the main hall. A guest at the wedding even got his phone smashed by security for trying to take a snap shot of the groom.
